SM Malls in Cebu Expand with New Experiences and Sustainability

SM malls in Cebu are undergoing significant transformations, introducing new experiences, enhanced accessibility, and sustainable practices across four key locations: SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu, SM J Mall, and SM City Consolacion. These developments aim to strengthen the malls' roles as community anchors while supporting environmental goals.

SM City Cebu: The Original Levels Up

SM City Cebu, the first SM mall outside Metro Manila since 1993, continues to evolve as a premier lifestyle destination. Its redeveloped North Wing features first-in-Cebu dining concepts and brands such as Din Tai Fung, Manam, Ooma, 8 Cuts, Mo’ Cookies, Ramen Nagi, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, MLB, and Victoria’s Secret. A new Food Hall and a refreshed IMAX Theater add to the appeal. In June 2025, National University Cebu opened within the mall, integrating education, technology, transport, food, and services into a connected environment.

SM Seaside City Cebu: A Regional Attraction

Located within South Coast City, SM Seaside City Cebu is expanding as a hub for shopping, entertainment, tourism, and large-scale events. The upcoming SM Seaside Arena will host its first concert in July with BINI as the featured performer. The SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu is targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, strengthening the complex as a MICE destination for Visayas and Mindanao. Nearby, Park Inn by Radisson and Radisson Hotel are planned. Additional attractions include Cebu Fun Park, Cebu Ocean Park, and pickleball hub Thirsty Pickle, along with new retail and dining options.

SM J Mall: A Boutique Lifestyle Experience

In Mandaue City, SM J Mall reopened in late 2024 after transforming the former J Centre Mall. The 78,000-square-meter property features Japanese-inspired aesthetics with Cebuano elements. Curated offerings include Kalidades Flower Café, Piandré, No Strips Premier Waxing Salon, Sushi Station, Wilson, and Salon de Thé. At its center is Linya, a four-story installation by Kenneth Cobonpue celebrating Cebuano design. New multi-level parking, a pedestrian link bridge, and future office spaces make it a connected hub for work and leisure.

SM City Consolacion: The Northern Community Hub

SM City Consolacion serves families from Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Danao, and nearby areas, providing retail, dining, services, entertainment, and essentials without travel to central Cebu. Anchors include The SM Store and Cyberzone, alongside family-friendly dining and leisure options. The mall reflects the importance of neighborhood malls in supporting fast-growing communities outside the metropolitan core.

Sustainability as a Common Thread

Across its Cebu malls, SM Prime integrates sustainability through a partnership with Japan’s GUUN Co., Ltd., diverting at least 80 percent of operational waste from landfills. This initiative aligns with SM Prime’s commitment to responsible growth, ensuring that new brands, services, and experiences contribute to cleaner, more livable communities. As these four malls evolve, they demonstrate how expansion can be managed with environmental responsibility.
