The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7 joined the kickoff of the 2026 National Disaster Resilience Month on July 1, 2026, in Lapu-Lapu City, as part of the government's effort to strengthen community preparedness, response, and early recovery against disasters in Central Visayas.
Office of Civil Defense 7 leads the event
The Office of Civil Defense 7 spearheaded the activity, with various government agencies and local partners participating. During the program, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Jiah L. Sayson, who represented Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero, highlighted the importance of the Harmonized Actions and Processes for a Swift, Accountable Yield (Hapsay) as a guide for the department's Disaster Response and Early Recovery (DRER). According to Sayson, rapid and coordinated assistance is key to ensuring proper support for families affected by disasters.
Upcoming activities throughout July
DSWD 7 has prepared a series of activities for the month. These include the ceremonial distribution of "Go-bags" on July 6, online disaster preparedness trivia every Wednesday starting July 8, and a writeshop for the Disaster Preparedness and Response Manual for Centers and Residential Care Facilities on July 14 to 15.
These will be followed by the Disaster Response Olympics on July 21 to 22, which will test the readiness of Quick Response Team clusters in setting up family tents, preparing Family Food Packs, and managing Non-Food Items. On July 23, a webinar will be held on Food and Non-Food Items, Internally Displaced Persons Protection, and Camp Coordination and Camp Management, along with simulation exercises using specialized response vehicles to further enhance the knowledge and capacity of responders and partners in humanitarian response.
