The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that 789 passengers were stranded at 58 ports across the country on Friday due to Typhoon Inday and the strong southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, which halted sea travel.
Details of Stranded Passengers and Cargo
According to the PCG, the stranded individuals include truck drivers and cargo helpers for 249 rolling cargoes. Thirteen vessels and 33 motor bancas were stranded at various ports, while 158 ships and 145 motor bancas had taken shelter earlier.
Regional Breakdown
The majority of stranded passengers were in the Southern Tagalog region, where 271 passengers and 23 rolling cargoes were stuck at ports in Real, Jomalig, Dinahican, Panukulan, Lucena, Alabat, Roxas, Pola, Romblon, San Agustin, Looc, Batangas, Bauan, Balayan, Tingloy, Lemery, Anilao, and Balanacan. In these ports, 109 vessels and 118 motor bancas had taken shelter.
In North Western Luzon, 16 vessels took shelter at ports in Agoo, Lingayen Gulf, Sual, Magsaysay, Salomague, PPA Port Onri, Pasuquin, and Laoag. Meanwhile, 130 passengers and one vessel were stranded at Bongao Pier in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Impact on Palawan and Central Visayas
In Palawan, 64 passengers and four vessels were stranded at ports in Barangay Cuyo, Coron, and El Nido. In Central Visayas, 94 passengers, 97 rolling cargoes, six vessels, and 30 motor bancas were stranded at ports in Polambato, Daanbantayan, Mainit, Taloot, Talibon, Ubay, Popo, Mabini, Cogtong Bay, Tapal, Hagutapay, Pilar, and Poro.
