Lusaran Reels from Typhoon Tino's Wrath
The mountain barangay of Lusaran in Cebu City is grappling with the severe destruction left by Typhoon Tino, which struck the area on November 4, 2025. The powerful storm ripped homes apart and swept vehicles into the raging currents of the Lusaran River, leaving a landscape of devastation in its wake.
Critical Infrastructure Damaged, Lives Disrupted
A vital connection for the community, the Lusaran Bridge, suffered significant damage from the storm's force. The erosion was so severe that the compromised section had to be urgently filled with soil to create a temporary passage for motorists and pedestrians. The Lusaran River, which flows towards the Municipality of Balamban, overflowed during the typhoon, triggering flash floods that devastated several downstream communities.
In the aftermath, many families have lost everything. Their lives have been reduced to the few possessions they managed to save. Lusaran Elementary School has been converted into a temporary evacuation center, with numerous families now sleeping on classroom floors.
An Urgent Plea for Basic Needs
The situation in Lusaran remains dire. Nights are particularly challenging for residents, as the area has no electricity and access to clean water has become scarce. The disaster has also impacted the school itself, where books and LED TV sets were destroyed by the floodwaters.
While children have begun receiving relief goods from both private and government sectors, the supply of aid is stretched thin, especially with the widespread damage affecting multiple communities. Residents are voicing their most critical needs, which are simple yet essential: food, clean water, and the hope that assistance will arrive swiftly to help them rebuild their lives.
