A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck 20 kilometers northeast of San Julian in Eastern Samar at 2:09 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Revised Magnitude and Depth
Phivolcs initially reported the tremor at magnitude 6.1 but later downgraded it to 6.0. The agency also corrected the depth from the initial 10 kilometers to 56 kilometers.
Intensity Reports
The quake was felt across several areas in the country. Intensity 5 was recorded in Tacloban City, Leyte; Intensity 3 in Casiguran and Juban, Sorsogon; and Intensity 2 in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs warned that damage and aftershocks are expected. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols.
