A tanker truck veered off the road and slammed into roadside utility posts and a small food stall in Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla town, around 3 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. The driver, identified only as Will, 33, a resident of Talisay City, admitted to police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel.
Driver Fell Asleep While Returning to Naga City
According to police investigation, Will was traveling from Mandaue City and heading back to the City of Naga, Cebu, when he dozed off. The tanker truck then crashed into the utility poles before hitting the roadside stall that was selling hot porridge and steamed rice cakes.
The stall vendor noticed the approaching truck and managed to jump out of the way, escaping injury. However, a 23-year-old woman named Jeje, who worked at a nearby eatery and was at the stall at the time, was not as fortunate. Hot water from the store spilled onto her during the crash, causing burns on the right side of her body.
Victim Hospitalized, Driver in Police Custody
Jeje was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment of her burns. The driver, Will, is now at the Minglanilla Police Station, where he is being held for further investigation. Authorities are continuing to look into the incident.
