The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Monday, May 4, 2026, that a tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this weekend.
Possible Entry Date and Name
According to Pagasa Administrator Nathaniel Servando, the cyclone may enter PAR on May 9 or 10, 2026, and will be named “Caloy,” making it the third tropical cyclone to hit the country this year.
Low Pressure Areas Monitored
In its 8:00 a.m. bulletin on May 4, Pagasa detected a low pressure area (LPA) approximately 2,870 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. This LPA is expected to develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours.
Although the likelihood of landfall remains low, Pagasa continues to monitor the situation closely.
Meanwhile, another LPA was spotted about 1,350 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. However, based on 24-hour monitoring, Pagasa sees no threat of this LPA developing into a tropical cyclone.
