The 2026 Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur concluded on Sunday, May 31, with Central Visayas reclaiming a spot in the top four for the first time since 2018. The Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) secured fourth place overall, amassing 32 gold medals, 30 silver medals, and 44 bronze medals.
Significant Improvement from Last Year
This year's performance marks a substantial leap from the seventh-place finish in the 2025 edition held in Ilocos Norte. The CVIRAA delegation demonstrated remarkable progress, climbing three spots in the overall rankings.
Top Performers of the Meet
As expected, the National Capital Region (NCR) dominated the national sporting event, clinching its 19th overall championship with an impressive haul of 91 gold, 71 silver, and 71 bronze medals. Region IV-A secured the second spot with 55 golds, 50 silvers, and 60 bronzes, while Region XI placed third with 34 golds, 32 silvers, and 34 bronzes. Completing the top five is Western Visayas, which garnered 31 golds, 36 silvers, and 45 bronzes.
The strong showing by Central Visayas highlights the region's growing athletic prowess and dedication to grassroots sports development. The CVIRAA delegation's achievement is a testament to the hard work of athletes, coaches, and support staff.
