Fil-Am McCain Leads Thunder Past Spurs in Game 5

The Oklahoma City Thunder moved one step closer to the NBA Finals after defeating the San Antonio Spurs, 127-114, in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals series on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (Philippine time). The victory gives the Thunder a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-seven series.

Reigning back-to-back MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander bounced back from a 19-point performance in Game 4, where the defending champions lost 103-82, by leading the team with 32 points in this crucial win.

With Jalen Williams (hamstring) and Ajay Mitchell (calf) sidelined, Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault made another change to his starting lineup. Instead of Cason Wallace, Daigneault inserted Fil-Am guard Jared McCain into the starting unit.

McCain did not waste the trust given to him, contributing 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half. After scoring just four points in Game 4, McCain provided a significant boost for the Thunder in the second half, not only on offense but also in other areas of the game.

Alex Caruso, who failed to score in Game 4, rebounded strongly with 22 points, matching his production from the first three games of the series. Chet Holmgren added 16 points, while Isaiah Hartenstein chipped in 12 points for the Thunder.

The Spurs were led by Stephon Castle with 24 points. Julian Champagnie added 22 points, and Victor Wembanyama contributed 20 points.

After a tight first quarter, the Thunder gradually pulled away, building a 69-58 lead by halftime. Oklahoma City maintained its advantage throughout the second half and never let the Spurs close the gap.
