The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Governor's Cup is set to feature three new imports making their highly anticipated debuts. The Meralco Bolts have secured Jordon Varnado, the Terrafirma Dyip will rely on Justin Strings, and guest team Macau Giant Pandas will be reinforced by De'Vondre Perry.
Jordon Varnado joins Meralco Bolts
At 29 years old, Varnado is technically a PBA rookie but is already familiar with the Bolts' system. The Troy University standout previously played for Meralco during last year's Basketball Champions League Asia, where he helped the team reach the quarterfinals. Varnado brings extensive overseas experience, having played in Hungary, Poland, Italy, Greece, and Israel. He steps in following Meralco's semifinal run in the Commissioner's Cup, which featured imports Marvin Jones and Patrick Gardner.
Justin Strings to bolster Terrafirma Dyip
Also 29, Justin Strings adds international flair to the Terrafirma Dyip. A Sacramento State product, Strings has played professionally in Canada, Germany, Argentina, and Uruguay. His versatility is expected to provide a significant boost to the Dyip's campaign.
De'Vondre Perry leads Macau Giant Pandas
The 27-year-old Perry takes the reins for the Macau Giant Pandas. The former Temple University standout has built a solid professional reputation with stops in Belgium, the Dominican Republic, and Germany. He will be the key reinforcement for the guest team.
Remaining teams yet to finalize imports
With Meralco, Terrafirma, and Macau finalizing their reinforcement cards, only Titan Ultra and the Converge FiberXers have yet to bring in their imports ahead of the July 10 opener. The Governor's Cup promises to be a competitive tournament with these new additions.
