Victor Wembanyama came out firing early to boost the San Antonio Spurs' offense as they defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 126-97 on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 (PH time) in Game 5 of their Western Conference semi-finals series, giving them a 3-2 lead in the 2025-26 NBA playoffs.
Wembanyama, who was ejected in the second quarter of the Spurs' 109-114 loss in Game 4 for elbowing Timberwolves big man Naz Reid, quickly put up 18 points in the first quarter alone. Overall, the French superstar finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Spurs, who now head to Minnesota for Game 6.
Key support for Wembanyama came from reserve Keldon Johnson, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle. Johnson contributed 21 points, Fox added 18 points, and Castle chipped in 17 points.
The Timberwolves were led by Anthony Edwards with 20 points, while Jaden McDaniels and Julius Randle each added 17 points, and Ayo Dosunmu contributed 16 points.
With Wembanyama's early offensive explosion, the Spurs posted 18 points in the second quarter. The Timberwolves fought back and tied the game at 61-61 midway through the third quarter. However, the Spurs' offense surged again, building a commanding 91-73 lead early in the fourth quarter. From there, the Spurs did not allow the Timberwolves to threaten again until the final buzzer.
