Metro Manila Under Health Alert for Holy Week 2026
The Department of Health (DOH) has officially placed Metro Manila under a Code White Alert, effective Monday, March 30, 2026. This alert status will remain in force until the conclusion of Holy Week on April 5, as confirmed by the DOH-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD).
Ensuring Rapid Response to Health Emergencies
In a detailed statement, the DOH-MMCHD emphasized that this measure is designed to guarantee a prompt, rapid, and well-organized response to any potential health emergencies. The decision comes in anticipation of heightened travel and public activities during the Holy Week period, which traditionally sees a surge in mobility and gatherings across the region.
All DOH hospitals within the National Capital Region, along with their personnel, are now on standby to maintain uninterrupted health services. Additionally, regional medical teams and district health teams have been placed on-call, ready to mobilize immediately in case of emergencies.
24/7 Monitoring and Public Safety Reminders
The DOH's Health Emergency Management Section (HEMS) Operation Center will conduct round-the-clock active monitoring of all health emergencies. This effort is being coordinated in close collaboration with local government units and the National Government to ensure a seamless and effective response system.
While the health department is fully prepared to assist, it has also reminded the public of their primary responsibility in maintaining personal health and safety. "Even as the DOH is ready to rescue this Holy Week, health and safety begins with you," the agency stated.
To help the public stay safe, the DOH issued several key advisories:
- Stay hydrated by drinking seven to eight glasses of clean water daily, especially amid summer heat, though patients under medical supervision should follow specific guidelines.
- Wear loose and light-colored clothing while respecting the norms of visited locations.
- Avoid direct sunlight between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to prevent heat-related illnesses.
- Travelers should ensure adequate rest and strictly avoid drinking and driving.
- Opt for dry and sour food in packed lunches to minimize the risk of food spoilage during travels.
This proactive alert underscores the DOH's commitment to safeguarding public health during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, balancing emergency preparedness with essential public education on preventive measures.
