More than one thousand residents of Porac, Pampanga have received vital free healthcare services thanks to a major two-day medical mission supported by Mekeni Food Corporation. The initiative, led by the non-profit Hospital on Wheels (HOW), took place at the Jose Songco Lapid Gymnasium on December 21, 2025.
Comprehensive Care for Underserved Communities
The event provided a wide range of essential services completely free of charge. Beneficiaries had access to medical consultations, minor surgical procedures, dental check-ups, and vision screenings. Organizers gave priority to indigenous peoples and other underserved sectors within the municipality, ensuring those most in need were reached.
This large-scale community effort was made possible through a collaboration between Hospital on Wheels, the Local Government Unit of Porac, Mekeni, and several other public and private organizations.
A Legacy of Community Service
Mekeni President Prudencio “Pruds” Garcia emphasized the power of partnership in driving meaningful community programs. He stated that this medical mission reflects the core values instilled by the company's founders, Felix Garcia and the late Meding Garcia, who themselves had a history of working closely with indigenous groups.
Dr. Jim Sanchez, founder of Hospital on Wheels, expressed his gratitude for Mekeni's sustained support. He noted that his organization has been conducting similar medical missions across the Philippines for 18 years, with the goal of improving access to basic healthcare for Filipinos everywhere.
Gratitude and Continued Support
Porac Vice Mayor Jen Capil extended thanks to all the sponsors of the mission. She highlighted how the activity significantly contributes to the local government's own efforts to make healthcare accessible, particularly for its indigenous population.
Beyond medical services, the mission also distributed gift packs to indigenous beneficiaries and children who attended. Mekeni Food Corporation confirmed that this marks the third consecutive year it has supported the Hospital on Wheels program.
The successful mission was bolstered by a coalition of partners, including:
