Davao City Initiates Search for Model OFW Family of the Year Award

The City Social Welfare and Development Office in Davao City, operating through the Overseas Filipino Worker Families’ Welfare and Crisis Center, has officially launched the search for the Davao City Model OFW Family of the Year Award, commonly referred to as DC-MOFYA. This prestigious award aims to celebrate and honor outstanding OFW families who embody core Filipino family values, showcase remarkable resilience, maintain financial responsibility, and actively engage in community activities, all while navigating the complexities of overseas employment.

Eligibility and Nomination Process

To participate in the DC-MOFYA, families must be nominated by a third party. Eligible nominators include barangay officials, non-governmental organizations, people’s organizations, religious and socio-civic groups, as well as OFW family circles. The nomination process requires the completion of a specific form available at the CSWDO office. Additionally, nominators must submit an MOFYA information sheet, a Certification of Family Solidarity, and a Barangay Certificate of Good Moral Character. All documents must be submitted on or before the deadline of March 30, 2026, to ensure consideration for the award.

Purpose and Recognition of OFW Contributions

During the recent ISpeak Media Forum, Jackilou Bandao, Development Management Officer I at the OFW Families’ Welfare and Crisis Center, emphasized the importance of this initiative. She explained that since the establishment of their office, they have consistently organized activities to acknowledge the hard work and significant contributions of OFWs to society. "We mount these activities to recognize their efforts and contributions to our society," Bandao stated, highlighting the center's commitment to honoring OFW families.

Bandao further elaborated that the DC-MOFYA not only promotes the best practices and achievements of exemplary OFW families but also aims to spotlight their success stories. By sharing the sacrifices, experiences, roles, and societal contributions of nominees and awardees, the program seeks to inspire others and foster a greater appreciation for the OFW community's impact.

Prizes and Further Opportunities

Winners of the DC-MOFYA will receive cash prizes as a token of appreciation for their dedication and achievements. Moreover, they will have the honor of representing Davao City as official nominees for the Owwa Regional MOFYA, providing an opportunity for broader recognition at the regional level.
