Iran and US Near Agreement on Strait of Hormuz Reopening: Report
Iran, US Near Strait of Hormuz Deal: Report

Iran's state television has reported that Tehran has obtained a draft of a preliminary memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States regarding a potential resolution to the conflict between the two nations. According to the report, the draft framework stipulates that Iran would return commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to normal or pre-war levels within one month. In exchange, the United States would withdraw its military forces near Iran and cease its naval blockade.

Key Conditions of the Draft Framework

The Iranian state TV emphasized that the framework is not yet final and that Tehran will not take action until there is tangible verification of the agreements. The draft also specifies that military vessels are not included in the accord, and Iran will manage the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in cooperation with Oman.

Potential Path to UN Resolution

Furthermore, if a final agreement is reached within 60 days, it could be approved as a binding resolution by the United Nations Security Council. The reported understanding between the U.S. and Iran stems from indirect talks that began after the war erupted in February, with Pakistan serving as the primary mediator for the ceasefire.
