Farmer Attacks Wife with Bolo in San Remigio

A 69-year-old farmer is now in police custody and facing a serious criminal charge after he allegedly attacked his wife with a bladed weapon in a violent domestic dispute in San Remigio, Cebu.

Violent Attack After Drunken Argument

The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in Purok Uno, Barangay Tambongon. According to Police Master Sergeant Erwin Labong, the investigating officer from the San Remigio Police Station, the couple, identified only by their aliases Poloy, 69, and Gemma, 64, were engaged in a heated argument.

The altercation began when the intoxicated husband, Poloy, was shouting and berating his wife. Gemma reportedly answered back, which escalated the verbal fight. Police revealed that the suspect's drunken tirades were a common occurrence and often targeted his wife, frequently questioning why she had returned to their home.

Victim Flees After Being Struck

As the argument intensified, Gemma decided to leave the area to avoid further conflict. However, as she was walking away, her husband suddenly struck her with a sundang (a traditional bolo or machete). The attack caused a wound on the left part of her arm.

Despite her injury, Gemma managed to run and seek help from her relatives and nearby barangay tanods (watchmen). Their prompt response led to the immediate apprehension of the suspect at the scene.

Family Dynamics and Legal Consequences

PMS Labong shared that the couple had not been living together as a pair, with each residing with different neighbors. Their children, who were accustomed to their parents frequent quarrels especially when the father was drunk, believed such fights were normal. They did not expect it would escalate to a physical attack on their mother.

The suspect was subjected to inquest proceedings on Thursday morning and is now formally charged with frustrated parricide. This grave charge underscores the severity of the alleged act against a family member.
