A 23-year-old woman was injured after a tanker truck crashed into a gutter and a post in Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla, Cebu, at around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. The victim, identified as Jeje, was working as a vendor at a local eatery when she was scalded by hot water that splashed from the impact.
Driver admits drowsiness caused crash
The driver of the tanker, identified as alias Wil, 33, a resident of Talisay City, told authorities that he dozed off while driving from Mandaue City to Naga City. “Nakatagpilaw ko samtang nagbyahe,” he said. This caused him to lose control of the steering wheel, sending the vehicle careening into a gutter and a post along the roadside.
The tanker also hit a small stall selling boiled corn and puto (rice cakes). Fortunately, the stall owner was able to step aside before being hit.
Victim scalded by hot water
Jeje, the 23-year-old woman, was scalded when hot water from the stall splashed onto her. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of her injuries was not immediately disclosed.
The incident caused damage to the tanker, the post, and the stalls. Authorities are investigating the crash and have reminded drivers to avoid driving when fatigued.
