Senate Minority to Oppose Impeachment Court Convening — Padilla
Senate Minority to Oppose Impeachment Court

Senator Robin Padilla has announced that the Senate minority bloc will oppose the convening of the impeachment court should the House of Representatives submit articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte. Padilla defended the move, stating that it is part of the minority's duty to oppose in accordance with parliamentary procedure, even if senators are sworn in as judges. He added that he is also preparing to serve as a senator-judge if the process proceeds.

Other Senators Weigh In

Senator Jinggoy Estrada also expressed opposition to the impeachment, citing the many problems facing the country. However, he emphasized that he would still base his decision on evidence if the process pushes through. Meanwhile, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano assured that the minority bloc will follow the rules.

Senate President's Statement

Senate President Vicente Sotto III stated that the impeachment court could be convened once the articles of impeachment are received, but the actual trial will be conducted at the appropriate time in accordance with the Constitution.
