Security personnel at a prominent hotel in Cebu City apprehended an aircon technician in the early hours of Wednesday, December 3, 2025, for allegedly being caught in the act of stealing electrical wire.
Apprehension in the Early Morning
The incident occurred around 3:00 in the morning at a well-known hotel located in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. Guards reportedly caught the technician, identified only by the alias Jess, 41, a married resident of Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City, in the act of taking wire.
He was subsequently turned over to the Mabolo Police Station. Authorities recovered from his possession three meters of TWH stranded wire (250mm), valued at approximately Php 5,200. This recovery was cited as the primary reason for his arrest.
Suspect's Contested Defense
During questioning, Jess firmly defended himself, denying that he stole the wire. He revealed that his official duty hours are from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and admitted he mistakenly entered the area where the incident happened because he was inspecting something.
Jess added that he had actually gone to the location to inform the security guards about someone he saw taking wire. He expressed shock when he was instead called to the office, presented with the wire, accused of being the thief, and then handed over to the police.
Hotel Management Pursues Legal Action
Despite the suspect's claims, the hotel management remains unconvinced. They are determined to proceed with the legal process and are set to file a criminal case for Qualified Theft against Jess.
The case highlights security protocols in hospitality establishments and the serious legal consequences of property theft, especially within a place of employment.
