A heated confrontation at a restaurant bar in Cebu City turned physical, leading to a formal complaint under the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) law. The incident, which involved former live-in partners, occurred on the evening of Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Altercation Erupts in Mabolo Establishment
The disturbance took place inside a resto bar located in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, shortly after 9:00 PM on December 3, 2025. According to the investigation led by the Mabolo Police Station, the conflict began when a woman, identified only as Monica, 30, from Barangay Cogon Pardo, arrived at the venue.
Monica encountered her former partner, a 28-year-old man nicknamed Kent, who was there with his new girlfriend. Kent, who works as a waiter and hails from Barangay Kasambagan, was reportedly startled by Monica's presence. This encounter quickly escalated into a verbal argument between the two women.
Alleged Assault and Conflicting Claims
Police reports state that Kent allegedly pushed and slapped Monica in a fit of anger, causing her to fall to the ground. This alleged act of physical violence is the core of the criminal complaint now being pursued.
However, the suspect has firmly denied the assault allegations. Kent claims he merely tried to intervene and separate Monica and his current girlfriend during their quarrel. He insists he did not commit any act of violence against his former partner.
Legal Repercussions Under RA 9262
Despite the separation, which occurred over two years ago due to what was described as a toxic relationship, Kent has continued to provide financial support for their two shared children. This history, however, did not prevent the legal fallout from the recent incident.
Monica is determined to file formal charges against Kent. The complaint will cite Physical and Psychological Violence under Sections 5(a) and 5(i) of Republic Act 9262, commonly known as the VAWC Act. This law provides protective measures for women and children from abusive acts.
The case remains under investigation as authorities piece together witness accounts and evidence from the chaotic scene at the Mabolo resto bar.
