Fish Vendor Killed in Cebu City Attack

A 63-year-old fish vendor was killed in a riding-in-tandem attack on Friday morning along Tres de Abril Street, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City. The incident occurred past 5:00 a.m. on May 15, 2026.

Victim Identified

The victim was identified as Elena Bascon, a resident of Sitio Tubod, Barangay Buhisan, also in Cebu City.

Attack Details

According to initial police investigation, the victim was riding a motorcycle taxi (habal-habal) heading to Pasil when she was suddenly shot by suspects believed to have been following her. The driver, alias Lito, stated that they came from Buhisan and the victim intended to buy fish to sell. He was shocked when he heard a gunshot and the elderly woman cried for help. Lito quickly stopped the motorcycle near the back gate of CIT-U when he saw the victim bleeding. The driver also noticed that the suspects made a U-turn immediately after the shooting, causing him to lose sight of them.

Possible Motive

One of the motives being investigated by authorities is the suspicion that the victim served as an informant in a recent drug raid in their area.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, while police continue their investigation to identify the perpetrators.
