1st Infantry Division Conducts Leadership Transition

The Philippine Army's 1st Infantry Division (1ID) has implemented significant leadership changes within its command structure during a formal ceremony held this week.

Ceremony Details and New Appointments

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the 1st Infantry Division conducted a Joint Change of Chiefs of Office Ceremony at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. This military installation serves as the division's headquarters.

The ceremony marked the transition of leadership for two vital staff positions. Lieutenant Colonel Eduard Sia-ed was officially installed as the new Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel, taking over from Colonel Peter Garceniego Jr.

Completing the Leadership Transition

In a related move during the same event, Colonel William George Cordova formally handed over his responsibilities as Division Inspector General. Completing this strategic reshuffle, Colonel Peter Garceniego Jr. assumed the role of Inspector General.

The formal proceedings included traditional military customs such as the turnover of office symbols, the signing of official orders, and the presentation of service recognitions. These acts served as clear acknowledgments of the dedicated service rendered by the outgoing officers.

Emphasis on Professional Military Values

Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., the 1ID commander, presided over the ceremony and emphasized the Division's unwavering commitment to professionalism and disciplined leadership.

"Transitions such as these reflect the stability of our institution," Barroquillo stated. "Leadership anchored on discipline and integrity ensures that our mission continues with clarity and resolve." His remarks affirmed the 1ID's values-driven leadership culture, highlighting how planned leadership rotations strengthen the military organization.
