PNP-CIDG Suspects Atong Ang Was Prepared for Arrest Warrant, Manhunt Operation Faces Challenges
The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has expressed suspicion that businessman Atong Ang was aware and prepared for the issuance of an arrest warrant against him. This assessment was shared by PNP-CIDG National Capital Region Chief, PCol. John Guiagui, who cited Ang's extensive resources and nationwide connections as key factors.
Manhunt Operation Intensifies Amidst Difficulties
Police officials have admitted to facing significant challenges in tracking down the fugitive's whereabouts. However, Col. Guiagui emphasized that these obstacles will not hinder their ongoing manhunt operation. The agency firmly believes that Ang is currently active and remains within the country's borders.
There is no record of Ang leaving the Philippines, prompting authorities to intensify their search efforts until his eventual capture. Verification processes are continuously being conducted on tips and information received through their dedicated hotline.
Contradictory Claims and Ongoing Investigations
This development comes after whistleblower Julie Patidongan previously alleged that Ang had already left the country. Patidongan had also implicated Ang as the alleged mastermind behind the disappearance of several cockfighters.
During a press briefing at Camp Crame on Monday, January 19, PNP spokesperson PBGEN Randulf T. Tuaño revealed that investigations are underway into both active and retired police officers, including senior officials, who may be assisting Ang.
Legal Charges and Bounty Details
Currently, two arrest warrants have been issued against Ang from courts in Laguna and Batangas. A substantial bounty of P10 million remains in place for information leading to his arrest, underscoring the seriousness of the manhunt operation.
The PNP-CIDG continues to leverage all available resources and intelligence to locate Atong Ang, ensuring that justice is served in this high-profile case.
