The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is in mourning after one of its personnel died suddenly while on duty. Patrolman Christian Jay Palon, 28, collapsed and later died from a suspected heart attack during a checkpoint operation early on June 23, 2026, along MJ Cuenco Street in Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City.
Officer Collapses After Complaining of Chest Pain
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rodulf Oriol, CCPO deputy city director for administration, Palon was a member of the Parian Police Station 1 and a native of Siaton, Negros Oriental. During the motor stop checkpoint, he took a break and went inside the station, where he complained of chest pain and difficulty breathing. Colleagues gave him water, but he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.
Heart Attack Suspected; Family History of Heart Problems
Authorities believe Palon suffered a heart attack. Oriol noted that the officer had complained of chest pains three days prior and showed signs of weakness. “While they were resting after returning to the station, he suddenly sat down and collapsed. Based on interviews with his father, there was a history of heart problems in the family. The medico-legal report also indicated cardiac arrest as the cause of death,” Oriol said.
CCPO Orders Flags at Half-Mast, Pledges Support
In honor of the fallen officer, the CCPO ordered flags at its headquarters to be flown at half-mast. The office extended condolences to the bereaved family, describing Palon as a kind and dedicated police officer. CCPO pledged financial assistance and other support. Initial aid from the Cebu City Government has already been provided to Palon’s father, who is arranging transport of the remains back to Siaton, Negros Oriental.
Reminder on Health and Fitness for Police Personnel
Officials reminded police personnel to maintain proper health and fitness through diet and regular exercise. However, they noted that Palon had a known family history of heart disease, as confirmed by his father.
