PRO 7 Seizes 3,241 Loose Firearms in 2025, Cuts Crime by 27.5%
Central Visayas Police Seize Over 3,000 Illegal Guns in 2025

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 in Central Visayas has declared its 2025 campaign against illegal weapons a major success, significantly improving public safety across the region.

Massive Haul of Unlicensed Weapons

Official data released by the regional police command shows a substantial crackdown throughout the year. From January 1 to December 31, 2025, law enforcement officers successfully confiscated a total of 3,241 unlicensed firearms.

This impressive figure includes 774 firearms that were voluntarily turned over by citizens through the PNP's flagship program, Oplan Katok. Under this initiative, police officers personally visit the residences of gun owners with expired licenses to persuade them to surrender their weapons.

Beyond firearms, the operations also led to the seizure of 93 explosive devices and approximately 5,900 rounds of ammunition in various calibers, removing a significant threat from communities.

The Peace and Order Formula in Action

Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the director of PRO 7, spearheaded these efforts through a dedicated peace and order strategy. The formula concentrated on two main fronts: dismantling organized criminal gangs and systematically depriving criminals of their tools by seizing illegal weapons.

This proactive approach resulted in the arrest of around 1,300 suspects linked to various unlawful activities, further disrupting criminal networks in Central Visayas.

Direct Impact on Crime Rates

The tangible results of this relentless campaign are clear in the region's crime statistics. PRO 7 reports that the focused drive against loose firearms and explosives directly contributed to a 27.54 percent decrease in focus crimes during the same period.

"Our nonstop operations in confiscating illegal firearms and explosives are aimed at removing the precursors of crime in our communities," stated Brig. Gen. Maranan. He emphasized that "each weapon or explosive taken off the streets contributes to a safer and more secure Central Visayas."

A Pledge for Continued Vigilance in 2026

Looking ahead, Maranan has assured the public that the progress made in 2025 is not the end goal. PRO 7 is committed to maintaining its strict law enforcement posture and deepening community engagement throughout 2026.

The regional police force aims to build on its current achievements to ensure the safety and security of Central Visayas are not just temporary gains but become a lasting reality for all residents.
