Iloilo City Police Inaugurates First-Ever Director's Cup
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) officially launched its first City Director's Cup on November 8, 2025, marking a significant event at the Mikey Firing Range in Barangay Lanit, Jaro District, Iloilo City. The ceremony saw active participation from police officials, community representatives, and civilian shooting enthusiasts, all gathered to support this groundbreaking initiative.
Emphasis on Core Values and Community Collaboration
Police Colonel Kim P. Legada, the city director of ICPO, set the tone for the competition by highlighting that the event transcends mere marksmanship. "This competition is not about who can shoot the straightest or score the highest," Legada stated. "It's about discipline, focus, and integrity—qualities that define both great shooters and great public servants."
The event was organized in partnership with the Iloilo City Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development (ICAG-PTD). Representing Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6), Police Colonel Jerome Afuyog Jr. delivered a powerful message underscoring the event's dual focus. "This event not only highlights the skills of our personnel and shooting enthusiasts but also strengthens the vital collaboration between the PNP and the community," the message read. "Excellence is not a skill; it's an attitude."
Ceremonial Start and Competitive Spirit
The opening ceremony featured a symbolic ceremonial shoot led by key figures:
- Police Colonel Jerome Afuyog Jr.
- Police Colonel Kim P. Legada
- Lawyer Rutchel Hechanova-Espinosa, ICAG-PTD Chairperson
- Director Ralph Rommel Torres of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Western Visayas
Lawyer Espinova reaffirmed her group's unwavering support for ICPO's programs, stating, "ICAG-PTD will continue to stand behind the programs and initiatives of ICPO that aim to enhance police capabilities and uplift personnel morale and welfare."
Following the opening rites, the competition commenced, featuring an IPSC/PPSA Level 1 Sanctioned Match and Action Air Shooting Competition. Both police and civilian participants showcased their skills, demonstrating not just precision but also the core values of discipline and teamwork that the event champions.
Strengthening Ties and Readiness in Western Visayas
The ICPO clarified that the overarching goal of the City Director's Cup extends beyond the firing range. The initiative is designed to:
- Strengthen police-community collaboration
- Foster mutual respect between law enforcement and civilians
- Encourage operational readiness across the entire Western Visayas region
This event marks a proactive step by the Iloilo City Police Office to build stronger, more cooperative relationships with the community it serves, while simultaneously honing the professional skills of its personnel.
