Former TV host Jay Sonza has yet to be released despite a court order allowing his release on bail, as his lawyer revealed that the process is stalled pending clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Release Order Issued But Not Executed
According to Atty. Mark Tolentino, Sonza's legal counsel, the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 118 issued a release order after Sonza posted a bail of PHP 10,000. However, the broadcaster remains in custody because of a "hit" on his NBI record, even though previous cases against him have already been dismissed.
Appeal to NBI Director
Atty. Tolentino has appealed to NBI Director Melvin Matibag to allow Sonza's release on humanitarian grounds, noting that his client is already 71 years old. The lawyer emphasized that the old cases have been junked and that the continued detention is unjust.
Legal Motion Filed
Sonza's camp has also filed a motion to quash the case against him. The court has one month to decide on the motion. Until then, Sonza's release remains uncertain as the NBI clearance is still pending.
