Successful Sea Rescue Operation in Southern Philippines
Personnel from the 1st Special Operations Unit–Maritime Group (1SOU-MG) executed a successful rescue mission, saving two individuals in distress within the municipal waters of Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi. The operation took place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, around 9:35 p.m., following concerns raised by the families of the missing persons.
Details of the Rescue Mission
The rescued individuals have been identified as Jerrick Egin, 40, a village watchman from Tongmageng village in Sitangkai, and Mahadil Araina, 35, a resident of Sibutu town. Both were traveling from Bongao, the capital of Tawi-Tawi, to Sitangkai aboard a motorboat when they failed to arrive at their destination on time.
The 1SOU-MG launched a prompt search and rescue operation after receiving a report about their delayed arrival. "This caused concern among the families of the passengers due to the unknown location and reason for the delay," the unit stated. The two men were found drifting at sea after their vessel encountered unexpected mechanical problems during the voyage.
Aftermath and Safe Recovery
Both Egin and Araina were found to be safe and in stable condition following their ordeal. The maritime operatives immediately transported them to the Municipality of Sitangkai for necessary medical assistance, documentation, and to reunite them with their concerned families. This incident highlights the critical readiness of Philippine maritime forces in responding to emergencies at sea.
