A family gathering at a resort in Zamboanga City turned into a scene of heroic action when an off-duty member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) saved a young child's life.
Quick Response in a Moment of Crisis
The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, January 4, 2026, at a resort in Cabatangan village, Zamboanga City. Petty Officer 3 (PO3) Al-Shier Alimuddin, who was on vacation and attending a family event, was alerted around 8:36 p.m. that a child had drowned in the swimming pool.
Without hesitation, Alimuddin rushed to the pool area. He found the eight-year-old child unresponsive in the water. Drawing on his Basic Life Support training, Alimuddin immediately began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the young victim.
Training Turns to Lifesaving Action
Alimuddin's prompt and correct application of CPR proved critical. His efforts were successful in restoring the child's vital signs and pulse at the scene. Following this initial intervention, the child was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment and observation.
The Philippine Coast Guard, in a statement released on Monday, January 5, 2026, confirmed that the child is now in stable condition and is recuperating under medical care. PO3 Alimuddin is regularly assigned to the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS)-Siasi in the province of Sulu.
PCG Lauds Off-Duty Heroism
The PCG officially commended Alimuddin for his timely and selfless actions. In their statement, they emphasized that his conduct, even while off duty, highlights the organization's core commitment to the preservation of life and public safety at all times.
This event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of basic life support skills and the profound difference one trained individual can make in an emergency. The quick thinking and bravery displayed by PO3 Alimuddin prevented a family tragedy and underscored the ever-present readiness of the nation's guardians.
