PNP Vows Aggressive Stance Against Crime and Drugs Following Major Operations
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has declared a more aggressive approach to combating criminality and illegal drugs, following two significant law enforcement successes over the weekend. This renewed commitment comes after authorities confiscated over PHP191 million worth of shabu in separate airport interceptions and arrested suspects in a brutal triple murder case in Cagayan province.
Massive Drug Interceptions at Ninoy Aquino International Airport
In a series of coordinated operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), authorities intercepted illegal drugs with a total estimated value of PHP191.2 million. The most recent seizure occurred on Saturday, March 14, 2026, when airport authorities discovered PHP28.2 million worth of suspected shabu inside the luggage of a 48-year-old Croatian national.
The foreign national had arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City after traveling from Johannesburg, South Africa, with a connecting flight through Hong Kong. This interception followed another major drug bust on Friday, where the NAIA-Intelligence and Detection Investigation Task Group confiscated nearly 20 kilograms of suspected shabu worth PHP135.96 million.
These illegal substances were concealed inside tea and coffee packages within two abandoned inbound parcels at the NAIA Complex Cargo Center in Pasay City. The parcels, shipped from abroad, were addressed to a recipient in Marilao, Bulacan.
Arrests in Cagayan Triple Murder Case
Simultaneously, PNP investigators made significant progress in a separate criminal case, arresting two male suspects, aged 31 and 48, in connection with the murder of three mobile phone technicians in Lal-lo, Cagayan. The victims' bodies were discovered on March 12 along a provincial road in Barangay Sta. Teresa, Lal-lo.
Initial forensic examination revealed that all three technicians had been shot multiple times. Investigators suspect robbery as the primary motive, as PHP1.1 million in cash and a mobile phone belonging to one victim were reported missing from the crime scene.
PNP Leadership Emphasizes Enhanced Operations
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez highlighted these operations as evidence of improved intelligence-driven police work. "Our commitment is not only to prevent crime but to ensure fast police response against law offenders," Nartatez stated in an official news release.
The police general specifically noted the crucial collaboration between local residents and investigators that facilitated the swift arrest of the murder suspects. "To the families of the victims, we offer our deepest condolences. Hindi namin kayo pababayaan (We will not leave you). Justice is being served and we will ensure the prosecution is airtight," Nartatez emphasized.
Strengthened Airport Security Measures
Regarding the drug interceptions, Nartatez delivered a clear warning to potential smugglers: "Malinaw ang mensahe natin (Our message is clear): Anyone who attempts to smuggle illegal drugs into the country will be intercepted and held accountable. We will continue strengthening airport security operations to protect the public."
The PNP's simultaneous successes in addressing both violent crime and drug trafficking demonstrate the organization's multifaceted approach to law enforcement. These operations come as the police force implements enhanced security protocols at key transportation hubs while maintaining investigative pressure on criminal elements nationwide.
