PRO-7 Seizes 3,241 Loose Firearms in 2025, Cuts Crime by 27.5%
PRO-7's 2025 Campaign Nets Over 3,000 Illegal Guns

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 in Central Visayas has declared its 2025 campaign against illegal weapons a resounding success, having taken nearly 3,000 unlicensed firearms off the streets. This aggressive drive contributed to a significant drop in serious crimes across the region.

Massive Haul of Illegal Weapons

From January 1 to December 31, 2025, PRO 7 operatives successfully confiscated a total of 3,241 firearms. A notable portion of this haul, 774 units, were voluntarily surrendered by citizens through the police's Oplan Katok initiative.

Oplan Katok is a cornerstone program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) where officers personally visit the residences of gun owners with expired licenses to persuade them to turn over their weapons.

Beyond firearms, the year-long operations also led to the seizure of 93 explosives and 5,900 rounds of ammunition in various calibers, significantly reducing the potential for violent incidents.

Direct Impact on Crime and Community Safety

The removal of these illegal items from circulation had a measurable effect on public safety. According to official police records, focus crimes in Central Visayas plummeted by 27.54 percent during the same period.

Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the director of PRO 7, attributed this success to a focused peace and order formula. This strategy prioritized the dismantling of criminal gangs and the systematic confiscation of weapons from lawless elements.

The operations were comprehensive, resulting in the arrest of approximately 1,300 suspects linked to various illicit activities.

Sustained Efforts for a Secure Future

General Maranan emphasized the preventive nature of their work. "Our nonstop operations in confiscating illegal firearms and explosives are aimed at removing the precursors of crime in our communities," he stated. "Each weapon or explosive taken off the streets contributes to a safer and more secure Central Visayas."

Looking ahead, Maranan assured the public that PRO 7 remains committed to its mandate. The regional police force will continue its strict law enforcement measures and deepen community engagement throughout 2026 to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Central Visayas is lasting.
