Wing Van Overturns in Transcentral Highway, Two Injured

Two individuals were injured when their wing van overturned on the Transcentral Highway (TCH) in Barangay Gaas, Balamban, Cebu, around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Accident Details

The vehicle involved was a Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Wing Van driven by Winnie Lambayong, 32, a resident of Barangay Pelesa, Totong 4, Bacolod City. His truck helper, Benzer Laquinon, 21, was also injured in the incident.

According to Police Major Ian Macatangay, chief of the Balamban Police Station, the two had traveled from Escalante City, Negros Occidental, and were heading to Cebu City to deliver hardware materials, specifically lights. They passed through Tabuelan Port that morning and continued their journey via the Transcentral Highway.

Cause of the Accident

Investigation revealed that while the wing van was descending a curved section of the road, its brakes suddenly failed. The driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve to the right side of the road before falling into a ditch and overturning.

Due to the violent overturn, both the driver and the helper were trapped inside the vehicle and sustained body injuries. They were rescued and brought to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
