The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced on Sunday that a total of 10,129 Filipinos have been repatriated from the Middle East amid ongoing regional tensions. According to DMW data as of May 24, the total includes 7,988 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), 1,779 dependents of OFWs, and 362 stranded Filipinos.
Repatriation Efforts
The repatriation was carried out with the assistance of the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Philippine embassies, and consulates in various countries. In addition to repatriation, the DMW said it has provided assistance to a total of 34,188 OFWs and other affected Filipinos, following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Types of Assistance Provided
- Food assistance: 23,345 individuals
- Transport assistance: 7,697 individuals
- Shelter assistance: 2,491 individuals
- Medical assistance: 2,427 individuals
The agency also reported that a total of 70,148 onsite services have been provided to OFWs and their families, including various forms of aid and welfare support.
Ongoing Support and Reintegration
The DMW and OWWA stated that they are continuously strengthening programs for welfare and reintegration to ensure the smooth return and restart of affected OFWs in the country. The government remains committed to assisting Filipino workers and their families during these challenging times.
