The clash, which began in the early hours of the morning and lasted throughout the day, marks a critical development in ongoing security operations in the region.

Details of the Encounter and Casualties

The firefight erupted at 3:58 AM in Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, and persisted until the afternoon, according to military reports. Lieutenant Colonel Eric Alfonso, commanding officer of the 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, confirmed that among the fatalities was Arnel Tapang, a most-wanted NPA leader with a P1 million reward for his capture. During the clash, one soldier sustained injuries but received immediate first aid and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, as stated by First Lieutenant Fevie Fajardo, civil military officer of the 79th Infantry Battalion in an interview with Bombo Radyo Bacolod. The incident prompted a large-scale evacuation, with 653 individuals or 168 families fleeing from affected sitios in Barangays Udtongan, San Jose, and Salamanca. These evacuees are now temporarily sheltered in local elementary schools, including Udtongan Elementary School and Toril Elementary School.
