Ninety-Two Former Rebels in Davao Region Embrace Peace Through Mass Surrender
In a landmark event symbolizing a shift toward lasting peace, ninety-two former rebels from dismantled guerrilla units in Southern Mindanao have formally returned to the fold of the law. The mass surrender and presentation ceremony took place on January 27, 2026, at the Balimba Hills Activity Center in Sitio JBL, Barangay Sto. Niño, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.
Coordinated Efforts Facilitate Historic Turnover
The activity was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the 60th Infantry Battalion under the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, local government officials, and various stakeholders. Key personalities in attendance included Bae Pilar Libayao, chairperson of the Indigenous Political Structure; Mayor Junnie Libayao of Talaingod; and Governor Edwin Jubahib of Davao del Norte, alongside representatives from multiple government agencies.
During the turnover, the former rebels surrendered twenty-nine assorted low-powered firearms for proper disposition. In a gesture of immediate support, they received food packs and financial assistance from local government units, aiding their initial steps toward reintegration into the community.
Military Leaders Hail New Chapter of Peace and Unity
Brigadier General Christopher Diaz, commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, formally presented the ninety-two former rebels, acknowledging their voluntary return to the fold of the law. He emphasized that this event marks the beginning of a new chapter of peace and unity for the individuals, their families, and their communities.
Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, underscored that the occasion represents more than just a surrender—it is a shared commitment to enduring peace and development. "This is not a surrender for me—this is an embrace of Kalinaw. Starting today, you are no longer former rebels; you are our peace partners. When we work together as one government and one community, progress will continue, and the soldiers will always be here with you," said Maj. Gen. Luzon.
Voluntary Surrender Driven by Hope for a Safer Future
The former rebels chose to surrender voluntarily, motivated by a desire for peace, unity, and reconciliation. Their decision was driven by the aspiration to secure a safer future and improved lives for their families and communities, highlighting a collective move away from conflict.
Sustained Efforts Yield Success in Insurgency-Free Communities
This successful surrender is the result of sustained and coordinated efforts by the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, local government units, and key stakeholders. It underscores the Division's ongoing commitment to maintaining insurgency-free communities in the Davao Region, preventing the resurgence of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), and transforming conflict-affected areas into resilient and self-reliant communities.
