Major Military Operation in Negros Occidental Results in 19 Insurgent Neutralizations

In a significant development against insurgency, troops from the 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion conducted extensive combat operations in Negros Occidental, resulting in the neutralization of 19 remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG). The operations, which unfolded in Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, represent a substantial blow to the dismantled Northern Negros Front of the Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros.

Series of Encounters and Firearm Recoveries

The military engagement began on April 19, 2026, when soldiers launched operations based on intelligence provided by a concerned citizen. The initial confrontation occurred at 3:58 a.m. in Sitio Sinugmawan, where troops responded to reports about armed NNF remnants in the area.

Following this first encounter, pursuit operations led to seven successive firefights in Sitio Plariding within the same barangay. Each engagement lasted between 10 and 35 minutes, demonstrating the intensity and duration of the military response to fleeing insurgents.

Substantial Material Recovery

Government forces recovered significant war materials from the encounter sites, including:

  • Multiple assault rifles
  • Two rifle grenades
  • One hand grenade
  • Approximately 20 hammocks
  • Numerous backpacks and bandoliers
  • Food supplies and personal belongings

The recovery of these items indicates the operational capacity of the CTG remnants and provides valuable intelligence for future security operations.

Military Leadership Commends Troops and Community

Major General Michael Samson, commander of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division based in Jamindan, Capiz, praised both the operating troops and local residents for their contributions to the operation's success. "We commend the bravery and determination of our operating troops, as well as the vigilance and cooperation of the Negrenses, whose steadfast commitment to CTG-free communities greatly contributed to this victory," Samson stated.

The military leader emphasized that these precision operations, backed by reliable information, represent ongoing efforts to neutralize all CTG remnants and achieve total victory against insurgency in Negros.

Casualties and Continuing Operations

During the engagements, one soldier sustained gunshot wounds to both arms but is reported to be in stable condition following medical treatment. Authorities have yet to establish the identities of the 19 individuals neutralized in the operations.

The Philippine Army has announced that operations will continue to ensure the complete dismantling of remaining CTG elements in Negros and maintain peace and security in affected communities.

Appeal for Peaceful Resolution

Major General Samson reiterated his appeal to remaining CTG members to surrender and return to government authority. "We do not rejoice whenever lives are lost, but we cannot prevent such tragedies, as they are the consequence of taking up arms and fighting against the government," he explained.

The military commander urged insurgents to abandon armed struggle and take advantage of government reintegration programs like E-Clip. "Problems and issues can always be resolved peacefully, without the pointless loss of lives. Lay down your arms, avail of E-Clip, and start a new and peaceful life with your loved ones," Samson added, emphasizing that the path of peace offers hope and justice.

The 3rd Infantry Division attributed the operation's success to strong coordination with local residents, highlighting that community support remains a crucial factor in dismantling insurgent groups throughout Negros Occidental.
