President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced that the primary goal of his State Visit to Japan from May 26 to 29 is to strengthen cooperation on energy security. According to the President, Japan is a great help in finding solutions to ensure adequate energy and oil supply for the Philippines.
Energy Cooperation and POWERR Asia
The visit will also discuss Japan's POWERR Asia program, which aims to support Asian countries in crude oil supply, supply chain, and renewable energy. President Marcos emphasized the importance of collaboration among the Philippines, Japan, and ASEAN to protect the region from the global energy crisis.
Renewable Energy Transition
Aside from oil importation and storage, Marcos stressed that accelerating the transition to renewable energy will be part of the discussions to shield the region from crises caused by geopolitical tensions.
Defense and Modernization Support
Additionally, Japan assured continued assistance and support for the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The President emphasized that this is not only about Japan's new policy on arms exports but also its official security assistance to the Philippines, including radars and support systems, information and technology sharing, as well as personnel training.
