Philippine Authorities Pursue Fugitive Charlie Atong Ang in Vietnam
Philippine law enforcement agencies are actively engaging with their Vietnamese counterparts following reports that fugitive businessman Charlie Atong Ang, the primary suspect in a high-profile cockfighting case, has been sighted in Vietnam. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing manhunt for the most wanted individual.
Diplomatic Efforts Underway
According to Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla, the Philippine government is making concerted diplomatic efforts to communicate with Vietnamese authorities. The goal is to scrutinize immigration records to confirm whether Ang is indeed present in the country. Remulla emphasized that results and confirmation regarding Ang's location in Vietnam are expected swiftly due to ongoing coordination between Philippine National Police Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and Vietnamese officials.
Investigation into Escape Routes
Simultaneously, investigators are exploring the possibility that Ang may have exited the Philippines through a backdoor in Mindanao, potentially heading to Malaysia several weeks after warrants for his arrest were issued. This angle highlights the complexities of cross-border fugitive tracking and the challenges faced by law enforcement in such cases.
Issuance of Red Notice
Currently, the DILG and other related agencies are working towards issuing a red notice against Ang to facilitate his immediate arrest. This international alert aims to bolster global cooperation in apprehending the fugitive and ensuring he faces justice for his alleged crimes.
