The Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC) has submitted the thick documentation required by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to issue a red notice against former Congressman Elizaldy Co, according to PCTC Executive Director Maj. Gen. Romeo Prestoza.
Documents Sent to Interpol Secretariat
Prestoza confirmed that the documents have been transmitted to the Interpol secretariat. He explained that they must emphasize to Interpol that Co is facing serious cases or crimes, necessitating the issuance of a red notice.
Understanding the Red Notice
According to Interpol, a red notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest an individual wanted by a requesting member country or an international tribunal pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. However, Interpol clarifies that a red notice is not an international arrest warrant.
Earlier, DOJ Secretary Frederick Vida confirmed that Co is no longer in the custody of Czech officials but remains within the Schengen Area.
