A barangay captain and his companion were arrested based on a warrant of arrest for qualified theft on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 8:00 PM in Barangay Poblacion, Medellin. The suspects were identified as alias Kapitan Tiago, 65, married, a resident of a barangay in Medellin, and alias Roy, 57.
Details of the Arrest
According to the police, both individuals were employees of a water distribution cooperative in the town. They were charged with qualified theft in connection with the alleged loss of funds from the cooperative where they worked. The police did not disclose the total amount allegedly taken.
Police Major Manuel Cabanlit, chief of the Medellin Police Station, stated that the arrest was made based on a warrant issued by Judge Clyde Lelith Lobedica of RTC-7 Branch 82 in Bogo City. Cabanlit said the two peacefully accompanied the authorities after being informed of the warrant.
Release on Bail
However, the detainees were released on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM after posting bail of P40,000 each.
