Grace Nancy dela Rosa, the wife of Senator Ronald dela Rosa, has appealed to the Philippine judiciary not to be used as a tool in sending her husband to The Hague, Netherlands. This comes amid authorities' pursuit of the senator after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant related to the controversial war on drugs.
Statement on Monday
In a statement on Monday, May 25, Nancy dela Rosa asserted that every Filipino should be tried under their own judiciary, not a foreign court. According to her, the government's voluntary surrender of a Filipino to an international court is an admission that justice in the Philippines is weak and incapable.
She emphasized that her husband's case is being blown out of proportion due to politics. "We do not have the luxury of time to wait for your technical arguments and debates. Every moment you remain undecided is an opportunity for them to close in on Bato," she said.
Lesson from Duterte's Case
If there is one lesson to be learned from the case of former President Rodrigo Duterte, she said, it is not to surrender another Filipino. "During PRRD's time, he went to great lengths to bring every Filipino home, even the convicted ones. During these times, they are going to great lengths to surrender another group of Filipinos," she stated.
She also wholeheartedly appealed to the judiciary not to surrender their responsibility to their countrymen and to fight for sovereign rights, as their decision will be remembered in history.
