A 41-year-old construction worker is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening to kill his former girlfriend and her family when she refused to reconcile with him. The incident occurred in Barangay Yati, Liloan City, on Sunday evening, January 4, 2026.
Drunken Threats Lead to Immediate Arrest
The suspect, identified only by the alias "Jay-r," a resident of Barangay Cansaga in Consolacion town, was apprehended by personnel from the Liloan Police Station. He is now detained and will face a case for Grave Threats.
The complaint was filed by his 40-year-old ex-partner, known as "Ellen." According to her statement, Jay-r harassed her and issued death threats against her and her entire family if she did not agree to get back together with him.
Police responded swiftly to the scene after the victim sought assistance. Authorities noted that the suspect was described as being heavily intoxicated at the time of the confrontation.
A Seven-Year Relationship Ends in Anger
Frustrated by his inability to confront Ellen directly, Jay-r reportedly made the threats in the presence of the victim's father and brother, who witnessed the entire outburst.
When contacted by Sunstar Superbalita Cebu, Jay-r claimed he had no memory of threatening his former girlfriend or her family. "None, oh! I don't know, I was extremely drunk! Maybe I said something but I can't remember," he stated.
However, he admitted to struggling with Ellen's decision to end their relationship, which had lasted for seven years. He revealed that Ellen had blocked him on Facebook earlier that Sunday morning.
Family Disapproval and Hopes for Reconciliation
Ellen explained that her child caught her repeatedly calling Jay-r. Her child's strong disapproval of the relationship was a key factor in her final decision to break things off permanently.
Despite the serious allegations and his arrest, Jay-r expressed that he still loves Ellen. While asking for forgiveness, he voiced hope that they could still reconcile in the future. The suspect stated he is prepared to face the legal consequences of his actions.
