Senator Jinggoy Estrada has filed an omnibus motion before the Sandiganbayan seeking clarification on the legal basis of the charges filed against him. The motion was submitted after the anti-graft court's Second Division issued a warrant of arrest related to graft cases filed by the Office of the Ombudsman over alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Details of the Motion
According to his lawyer, Atty. Noel Ostrea, the motion was filed in response to the warrant of arrest issued by the Sandiganbayan Second Division, chaired by Presiding Justice Geraldine Econg. The court also issued a hold departure order against Estrada, former Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, and co-accused engineers Denryl Cortuna, Arturo Gonzales Jr., and Manny Bulosan.
Bail and Legal Remedies
Estrada posted bail of P90,000 on May 29, 2026. He denies the allegations, calling them baseless and without merit. In a statement on Monday, June 1, 2026, Estrada urged the Sandiganbayan to give due consideration to his motions and uphold due process. He noted that alongside posting bail, his lawyers immediately filed pleadings to consolidate the cases and delay any warrant of arrest.
Estrada emphasized his right to legal remedies, including filing a motion for reconsideration, especially since he only received a copy of the Ombudsman's resolution on the plunder case on Friday evening. Prosecutors allege that Estrada received approximately P573 million in kickbacks through the management of infrastructure project funds.
