The National Bureau of Investigation has disclosed that it received information regarding an alleged bribery involving 18 former Marines. During a press conference, NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag shared that an individual approached their office and provided a statement concerning the said allegation.
Details of the Alleged Bribery
According to the informant, the 18 ex-Marines were paid P5 million to appear publicly and testify on a corruption issue. The informant named former Congressman Mike Defensor as the one who allegedly offered this amount. Director Matibag has ordered an investigation into the accusation.
NBI's Actions and Next Steps
The bureau assured that the informant's statement is recorded and signed. Director Matibag also stated that the NBI has issued subpoenas to the alleged members of the group and to former Congressman Defensor to obtain their side of the story. The agency continues to verify the allegations to determine the full truth.
