A 43-year-old man has confessed to killing his 82-year-old father by hitting him with a piece of wood and strangling him in Purok Dao, Barangay Basak, a mountainous area in the town of Badian, Cebu. The suspect, Climaco Libron, a tricycle driver and resident of Purok 10, Barangay Taytay in the same town, revealed the motive in an interview on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Details of the Crime
The crime occurred on June 4, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m. According to Climaco, he was about to drive his tricycle to work when he passed by his father Nemecio Libron's hut. He then picked up a piece of wood and struck his father repeatedly.
Climaco admitted that he had long planned to kill his father because he could no longer tolerate the shouting and hurtful words he received from him. Additionally, he was deeply angered by what he described as his father's betrayal, having heard stories that his father had conspired with his first and second partners.
"This is payment for his bad deeds, ma'am, which only heaven knows. I didn't want him to victimize anyone else," Climaco said. He also expressed resentment because his father would harvest coconuts from their land without asking and would not share the proceeds with him.
The suspect struck his father three times on the head while the latter was turned away. "I intended to kill him, ma'am, and I left him there, but someone saw," he added.
Suspect's Criminal History
Despite expressing remorse, Climaco admitted that he felt his father had to be killed. It was also learned that in 2008, the suspect was imprisoned for killing a thief and was released in 2018.
Currently, Climaco is back in jail at the Badian Municipal Police Station while a case of parricide is being prepared against him. His father's body lies in state at their home.
