BPAT Responders Training in Tapul, Sulu Boosts Security

A total of 41 members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) from six villages in Tapul, Sulu, are currently undergoing responders training, marking a significant step in strengthening grassroots peacekeeping mechanisms and enhancing local peace and security initiatives. The training, which began on Monday, May 11, 2026, was launched through a partnership between the 1102nd Infantry Brigade (1102Bde), the Philippine National Police, and the municipal government of Tapul.

Training Highlights and Objectives

The BPAT Responders Training Class 10-2026 includes cross-training in Arnis and Aikido, equipping participants with essential skills for peace and order maintenance, emergency response, and support for law enforcement. The opening ceremony was held at the covered court of Kalang village, Tapul.

The 1102Bde emphasized that the training aims to create force multipliers in communities, enabling BPAT members to serve as first responders during disasters, accidents, and other emergencies. They will also act as the "eyes and ears" of their villages by providing timely information to military and police on security concerns.

Local Government and Military Support

Tapul Mayor Nasser Daud Jr. expressed his appreciation to village officials, religious leaders, municipal officials, and partner agencies for their continued support. He highlighted that sustained dialogue and collaboration are key to successful peace and security initiatives. Daud commended the 104th Infantry Battalion (104IB) for its consistent community engagement efforts and reaffirmed the municipal government's commitment to public safety and sustainable peace.

Lieutenant Colonel Roy Dalumpines, commander of the 104IB, lauded the collective efforts of all stakeholders, underscoring that choosing peace is fundamental to development and long-term stability. He stressed that BPAT members play a crucial role in community security.

Collaborative Efforts

The training is conducted through the collaborative efforts of the 104IB, the Tapul Municipal Police Station led by Police Captain Erwin Cabria, and the municipal government. This initiative underscores the impact of unified action among local government units, communities, and security forces in building peaceful, resilient, and secure communities.
