Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu Grant Extensions for 2026 Business Tax Payments and Permit Renewals
In a significant move to support local enterprises, the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu have officially announced extensions for the 2026 business tax payments and Mayor's Permit renewals. This initiative provides business owners with increased flexibility to comply with municipal regulations, ensuring smoother operations in the coming year.
Cebu City's Extended Permit Renewal Period
Cebu City has authorized an extension for permit renewals, which commenced on January 5 and will now run until January 30, 2026. This decision was formalized through a Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution dated January 6. To facilitate transactions and minimize congestion at City Hall, satellite offices have been established at SM Seaside City near the LTO and on the fourth floor of Robinsons Galleria. Daily operations begin at 8:00 a.m., and the City Government strongly encourages taxpayers to utilize the online payment facility available on the official Cebu City website. Additionally, scanning a provided QR code allows for advance completion of the Mayor's Business Permit application.
Emma Villarete, Officer-in-Charge of the Cebu City Treasurer's Office, emphasized that failure to meet the January 30 deadline will result in a 25 percent surcharge plus a two percent monthly interest on any unpaid amounts. Officials urge early payment to avoid penalties, long queues, and potential delays.
Mandaue City's Relief for Affected Businesses
Mandaue City has also extended its deadline for business permit applications and tax payments, offering relief to owners impacted by recent calamities such as flooding and earthquakes. Lawyer August Lizer Malate, head of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), confirmed that the extension was authorized by the City Council and approved by Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano.
The new application deadline is set for January 25. Business owners who submit their applications online on or before this date will not be considered late filers and will have until January 31, 2026, to pay their business taxes without incurring penalties, surcharges, or additional fees. Applications filed after January 25 will face a 25 percent surcharge and monthly interest. Malate noted that approximately 11,000 applications are currently being processed.
Lapu-Lapu City's Updated Renewal Timeline
In Lapu-Lapu City, the renewal deadline has been extended to January 30, 2026. However, assessment requirements must be submitted by January 28. Operating hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with Saturday operations now discontinued.
All three cities have advised business owners to take full advantage of these extensions to ensure uninterrupted operations throughout 2026. This coordinated effort highlights the local governments' commitment to fostering a supportive business environment amidst challenging circumstances.
