Cebu City Hall Employees to Get P15K Christmas Bonus, No Grand Party
Cebu City Hall staff to receive Christmas bonuses this year

Cebu City Hall employees can look forward to a financial boost this holiday season, as the local government prepares to distribute Christmas bonuses. Mayor Nestor Archival made the announcement during a press conference held on Monday, December 1, 2025.

Bonus Details and Approval Process

Mayor Archival confirmed the planned bonus amounts for the city's workforce. Regular and casual employees are set to receive P15,000 each, while those under job order (JO) contracts will be granted P5,000. The mayor was careful to describe this incentive as a token of appreciation for the staff's yearly service, rather than an extravagant gift.

However, the release of these funds is not immediate. The proposal must first gain approval from the Cebu City Council before any money can be disbursed. Archival stated that the specific schedule for the bonus release will only be finalized once the necessary legislative process is completed. The city administration employs over 4,000 personnel, including more than 2,000 casual workers and approximately 1,000 JO staff, all of whom stand to benefit.

A Sober Celebration in the Wake of Typhoon Tino

The mayor's announcement came with a note of solemnity, reflecting on the challenges faced by the community this year. He reminded everyone that City Hall workers were also among those affected by Typhoon Tino, which struck Cebu City earlier in 2025. In light of the ongoing recovery efforts in many communities, the city government is prioritizing responsibility alongside celebration.

As a direct result of this stance, Mayor Archival declared that there will be no citywide Christmas party for City Hall this year. He instructed all department heads that any small office gatherings should be kept simple and modest. This decision underscores the administration's focus on supporting recovery rather than hosting lavish festivities.

Looking Ahead and National Assistance

When questioned about potential assistance from the national government for employees impacted by calamities, Mayor Archival indicated that no official communication has been received yet. He mentioned that if such aid is announced and reaches the city, his office will ensure it is forwarded to the intended recipients without delay.

The move to provide Christmas bonuses is part of Cebu City's broader year-end efforts to support its workforce and maintain morale. It represents an acknowledgment of the employees' dedication throughout a year marked by natural disasters and other challenges. The city continues to finalize its budget allocations with the dual goals of operational efficiency and staff recognition.
