Cebu City is implementing extensive security preparations for the anticipated large crowds attending prayer rallies today, as interfaith groups join nationwide anti-corruption demonstrations coinciding with Bonifacio Day celebrations.
City Coordination and Security Protocols
Mayor Nestor Archival confirmed that the city has activated coordination protocols with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and various civic groups to ensure peaceful and orderly assemblies. This comes after rally permits requested by organizers were approved earlier this week.
While expressing support for the anti-corruption advocacy, Archival clarified that the city's primary concern remains public safety. "In my case, they asked for a permit and I said go ahead, I really don't have a problem with that because, in the end, their advocacy is anti-corruption, and I'm with them," he stated. However, he maintained his neutrality regarding political affiliations.
Multisectoral Participation and Organization
The organizers in Cebu, representing the Trillion Peso March Movement (TPMM) and Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (KBKK), are conducting simultaneous demonstrations across the nation to condemn systemic corruption and push for stronger government accountability.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu, ecumenical alliances, and numerous cause-oriented groups are also leading interfaith gatherings. Student leaders and youth coalitions have committed to participate. Given the expected attendance from multiple sectors, City Hall anticipates separate crowds in designated rally zones.
Guidelines and Moral Purpose
Participants in the multisectoral "SuPaKK: Sugboanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon" have been reminded of schedules and guidelines for the November 30 assembly. The SuPaKK has united diverse communities in a prayer-centered call for truth, integrity, transparent governance, and environmental stewardship.
Cebu Archbishop Alberto "Abet" Uy encouraged participants to maintain unity and moral purpose during the mobilization. "Truth must prevail. Integrity must rise. For Cebu. For our nation. For the future generation," he emphasized.
Attendees have been reminded to wear white to avoid political colors and are encouraged to maintain unity for the common good. Participants must also be responsible for their own trash to keep rally areas clean. Banners should only be printed on canvas cloth, cartolina, sublimation, or drifit materials.
