The newly appointed chief of the Highway Patrol Group in Central Visayas (HPG-7) has formally introduced himself to Cebu City's local chief executive, promising collaboration and support for key city initiatives.
Courtesy Call at City Hall
On the afternoon of Monday, December 22, 2025, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wildemar Tiu visited the office of Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival at the Cebu City Hall. The visit served as a traditional courtesy call, marking the start of Tiu's tenure as the region's top highway patrol officer.
Accompanying Colonel Tiu was Lieutenant Diana Rose Fernandez, the chief of the HPG-7's Police Community Relations office. Their presence underscored the unit's commitment to maintaining strong ties with the local government and the community.
Pledges of Support and Cooperation
During the meeting, the Sugboanon officer made significant commitments to Mayor Archival. Lt. Col. Tiu pledged his full support for the mayor's programs, with a particular focus on initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and order within the city.
He further assured the mayor that the HPG-7 would work hand-in-hand with the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) to ensure the strict implementation of all city ordinances related to traffic management. This collaboration is seen as crucial for addressing the persistent traffic challenges in the metropolitan area.
Mutual Commitment for Upcoming Events
In response, Mayor Nestor Archival reciprocated the support, assuring the HPG-7 of the city government's backing. The mayor specifically highlighted the upcoming Sinulog Festival, one of the country's largest and most celebrated cultural and religious events.
Archival emphasized that the city would require assistance from the HPG-7 to manage the immense influx of vehicles and ensure smooth traffic flow during the grand festival in January 2026. The meeting concluded on a positive note, setting the stage for enhanced coordination between the police agency and the city government for public safety and efficient traffic management.
